Bragging Rights!
By Sonny from Franklin Park, IL on 2011-06-24

The 667 is a large unit... about twice the size of the toys I took back... but still smaller than the smallest commercial unit I looked at. It is NOT easier to clean than the cheaper versions, but it does a great job of slicing... And looks good which makes the task a little easier. Portions of it can be removed for cleaning, but not without removing screws, etc... So why bother. I set it on the edge of the sink and try to spray it off. You could remove the blade, but that appears to be somewhat of a task also... removing several screws and attaching a special holder. It arrived with a stripped metal screw... One of two.. That secure a plastic slice deflector.. This keeps the slice from lodging behind the blade and motor. Not a big enough problem to ship the unit back to factory, but frustrating. The deflector seems to be holding and I can always install a larger screw if it creates a problem in the future. Seems to be well built of good material. Slices meat very thin.. not tried cheese yet.. Sliced homemade rye bread with normal blade.. I really like the blade cover which keeps the meat, etc from catching on the middle of the blade when returning the carriage... which WAS a problem with both units I returned. I suspect that a more expensive unit... for home use.. Would only add girth and weight and "bragging rights"........

Great Product!
By Morry from Maryland on 2011-06-24

I had been using my family's old one. This is so much better and safer. Really top of the line equipment. Was even able to teach my teenage son to use it safely under supervision. Great Product. Just what I was looking for to replace the one that has been in my family for 50 years.

The Best!
By Happy from Mississippi on 2011-06-24

First off, this was a long time coming for me, and I wanted to test it before I gave any feedback on the buy. It has been 4 months and I couldn't be happier. This is a huge buy and most places charged way too much. That's why when I found Gourmet Chef's Outlet that sold it for [...] with shipping, I had to swoop it up. So, as far as use, I've done a turkey roast and ham for deli slices, London broil for jerky, various cheeses, and other various pork cuts. The blade that comes with it is all you will ever need. The serrated edge they try to push for bread is unnecessary. All you have to do is freeze the bread a little and cut it. Easy money. As I finished the back end of the ham, which was the uncut part of the pre-cut ham, which is bogus, but the only thing they had at Costco, I ended up with an endless supply of deli sliced ham. Awesome. I mean, if people only knew how much they are getting nickel and dimed for thin slices of meat. I packaged a lot of my work and put it in the freezer. Clean up - it isn\'t as hard as people on this review board said, but let me give you some tips. You don't have to take it all apart every time, unless it is a juicy piece of meat. A little butter brush helps to push things from under the blade housing and you can just turn the blade and use a sponge. Easy. Be careful though, the blade is sharp. I was being a littler cavalier during one cleaning session and sliced my finger. But other than that, taking it apart shouldn\'t be a problem. When you do take it apart, the little cart has two thumb cylinders underneath. You don't have to tighten them every time super tight when you put it back together. Just tighten them enough. You take off the blade shield with an Allen wrench and then attach the blade extractor. Now, the best thing to do is use a wood ruler to separate the blade from its mouth. Just stick it in between the blade and motor compartment and wiggle it back and forth until it gives. Be careful.

Wonderful Slicer!
By Scott from Michigan on 2011-06-24

When I was shopping for a meat slicer, my major concerns are quality and whether it is easy to clean. I took the plunge because I know I will save a ton of money slicing my own deli meat (and also a ton of energy and time) for my kids' lunch (plus there is no nitrites and all that bad stuff). This slicer is designed like a tank in durability but has dummies in their mind when it comes to the ease of use. It works wonderfully and my freshly roasted beef all sliced so cleanly and perfectly, just like how it looks at the Deli. But the best thing is: it is very easy to clean. I just need to remove the food carriage (first time is the hardest; just don't over tighten it when you reinstall it)and use the provided wrench to remove the blade protector and wipe clean with a damp cloth. One more thing, I carefully angle the machine over the sink and spray the crevice behind the blade (and that space only, which accumulates a heck of a lot of crumbs and juice) with my sink sprayer. Take it easy and let the water run through the gap for a minute or so. The water will clean that little space perfectly. At first, I thought I need to use some long tool like a chopstick and a cloth to wipe clean that space after I sprayed it. But when I checked it visually and then with my finger after it dries, it is CLEAN! This thing actually cleans easier than my food processor (which I use very frequently, and not complaining, Cuisine Art!). In my opinion, if you want a great slicer to last for a (few) lifetime(s) and at a very reasonable price, this is definitely the one!

Excellent meat slicer!
By EM from Hawaii on 2010-11-04

The performance of Chef's Choice 667 food slicer is excellent. It had been on my wish list for years but I wanted a real good one with a large blade to do the job right: one that would cut the prosciutto paper-thin. THIS IS IT! It slices prosciutto, bresaola, beef carpaccio, ahi (Tuna) carpaccio thin thin thin like it is suppose to be without difficulty. I am thrilled with it! Finally we can have prosciutto, carpaccio at home...sliced right, like they would in Italy.....oh what a treat! I have used this slicer to cut vitello tonnato too. It is a great pleasure to prepare appetizers for ourself or when entertaining friends with no effort whatsoever!!! It is easy to clean but the trick is to cut the meat frozen.....!!!!!

Own deli slicer at home
By Tao from United States on 2010-10-12

I've searched the whole internet for under-$500 Quality meat slicer and ended up getting this one. Reasons I chose this one over the other $100/ $299/ and 400$ similar slicers. I chose Chef's Choice Brand for broad availability in replacements. I've tried a $100ish slicer and i just can't withstand the motor noise, plus the blade will just slow down if you cut sticky stuff or frozen meat. I've also tried the medium level chef's choice 642, while noise-wise is very acceptable in kitchen enviroment, the blade has no cover, so if you cut delicate stuff, it will just mess it up because of the friction against the rotating blade, even worst when you push all the way down and your cheese will"spin" if not hold tight. So this one covers it all, Plus a more powerful 1/4 HP motor, and a much larger blade at 9.8 inches. It is very sturdy, close to 30 pounds (but very easy to move around, not that heavy as you think) ruber height adjustable feets stay in place even for the toughest meat slice. It has a double safe switch feature, On-off switch and a Start switch next to it, This prevents accidental start (prevents you from being sliced!!!) should the user left the power switch ON and plugged in the power cord. so you have to press one time the start button to get the blade spinning. I've tried a variety of stuff through it. Nothing could stop that powerful blade. The thickness is easy adjustable with the round dial and IT Stays in place, very accurate. This one is a keeper and will last for long. REMEMBER ONE THING. CLEAN IT AFTER USE. Yeah... You have to.

You won't be sorry! Excellent
By Carol from Florence, SC USA on 2010-09-01

This is the second food slicer I've owned in my life. The first was a Waring food slicer I picked up at Lowes for about a hundred bucks. I returned it the next day. So I came to Amazon.com and decided to buy this model. While it is an invested in money and kitchen space, I'm very happy with it. It slices through meat, cheese, and veges like they were nothing. Plenty of hand guards and saftey features to keep you from slicing your fingers off too. The blade is extremely sharp though and should be handled with extreme care. Just remember, don't put your fingers near the blade while it's spinning for any reason. It does come with a plastic carry case which screws on to the blade so it can be removed for cleaning. I wouldn't recommend handling the blade with out it as the blade is razor sharp and rather heavy. The machine is easy to clean and the blade can be removed and replaced in a few minutes. It's simple, it's easy, and it's slices great. I bought some roast beef, ham, and turkey at Sam's club and this machine will slice the meat very very thin which is the way I like it!. Now, I know you're looking at the price and thinking, that's a lot of money. All I can say is don't waste your money on some cheap brand, spend a little more and get a quality piece of kitchen equipment that will do the job and do it right. The only draw back I can see is the size, which for me isn't a problem, but if you're looking for something small, this isn't it. It's not as big as the slicers you see at the deli, but it's close. I'd also recommend a food vacuum machine so you can vacuum seal the unused meat for later to keep it fresh or even so you can freeze a portion of it for later. Also, don't slice it until you are ready to eat it. I know once you get this baby home, you'll want to slice that whole 6lb roast beef, just slice what you're going to use and refrigerate or freeze the rest for later. One more thing, always turn the thickness knob to zero when you're not cutting food, just a safety measure. All I can say is if you're in the market for a good slicer, don't look and further, I think everybody would be happy with this model!!

On the fence
By CP from Chicago on 2010-07-05

Weight and size great; works well in a food vendor booth over a prolonged period. Tray used to catch meat very poorly designed-does not fit tight to machine and is small, so meat and juices overflow onto counter. Had to devise another tray to go underneath the entire slicer. The blade comes off easily enough, but it is extremely time consuming to clean the entire machine in between uses on a busy day, which is required by our Health Department. Price is right and overall, it worked much better and faster than cutting by hand.
